The owner of Hollywood Video and Game Crazy said Monday that it will close three unprofitable Orange County stores in Irvine and Tustin.
The Hollywood Video store on Irvine Boulevard in Tustin and the Game Crazy store inside it will close. The Hollywood Video store on Culver Drive in Irvine will also shutter. A company spokesman said today that there’s no official closing date yet, but the closures will happen soon.
The company, which is working through a bankruptcy reorganization, said it will work with customers at affected stores to transfer their accounts to other nearby Hollywood Video and Game Crazy locations where possible. Hollywood Video has at least 11 other locations in Orange County. Game Crazy has at least six other
stores in O.C.
The local closures are part of a bigger companywide decision to shutter about 400 unprofitable Movie Gallery, Hollywood Video and Game Crazy stores. Movie Gallery Inc. owns all these stores.
The move follows another announcement last September that Movie Gallery Inc. would close about 520 unprofitable Movie Gallery, Hollywood Video and Game Crazy stores. Then, the second largest North American video rental company had nearly 4,500 stores.
From that September announcement, five Orange County Hollywood Video stores were selected to close: Buena Park, Westminster, Dana Point, Huntington Beach and Orange. They have all closed since then.
