Shoe Pavilion, the off-price footwear chain, has filed for bankruptcy protection.
The info was revealed in a company document filed today with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Tuesday.
The company has more than 100 stores in seven western states, including three stores in Orange County in Irvine on Barranca Parkway, Huntington Beach at Bella Terra mall and Lake Forest at the Orchards at Saddleback shopping center.
Sales at stores open at least a year, considered a key gauge of a retailer’s health, fell 16.5 percent for the quarter ended March 29. The results were primarily due to a “difficult retail environment,” according to an SEC document.
The retailer sells brands like Kenneth Cole Reaction, Steve Madden, Adidas, Anne Klein, Bandolino at 20 to 60 percent below regular department store prices.
Since the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2007, the company expanded its merchandise offerings to include apparel and fragrances and more recently, sunglasses and jewelry.

I saw this coming the last time I was over at Bella Terra in H.B. over a month ago. Shoe pavillion was having a blow out sale. I never quite understood the concept of this place, since I felt it wasn’t much of a discount store, the place was never crowded and it was a huge retail space for what?????
Dangit!
Just when I found a place that sells EVERY style of Adidas!
I love Adidas because they are vented and comfortable. Now I’m limited again to two different styles from SportsAuthority or SportMart or whatever it is called now.
Ugh.
