The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has decided to close up to 92 underperforming U.S. retail locations.
It’s also possible that some of the 92 stores will remain open under new ownership, spokesman Keith Price said Tuesday.
The affected stores could be Just Tires, Allied or Goodyear Auto Centers, Price said. The company currently owns and operates 742 of those stores in the U.S., he said. So the closures could amount to about 12 percent of the total count for those three types of stores.
Goodyear plans to exit a substantial number of the 92 stores by the end of the year, according to a Tuesday filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
The decision to exit these retail locations will affect about 500 full-time associates and 100 part-time associates, the company said.
It also said in a statement that it won’t announce the affected store locations until it informs the employees at the stores and property owners of leased facilities. Price said he doesn’t yet have a date for this announcement.

Guess it hasn’t been a “Goodyear.” Probably not “the worst.”

Goodyear is so overpriced it’s unbelievable. I asked for an estimate on some tires and the price was so much hirer then everyone else that they much be out of their minds. I saved $120 buying my tires somewhere else. No surprise they are going under.

Goodyear was a joke. Over-priced tires with salesman building in the extended warranty plans without even pointing it out. Some people are just idiots at business and will trust anyone.

Good riddance and good buy. The Buena Park Goodyear (La Palma and Stanton) ripped me off for $10 during an oil change and then accused me of not being able to do math when I complained. They actually expected me to bring my car in the next day to purchase four tires for $800. (As an electrical engineer, math and physics are my strong areas!) When they called to ask me when I would bring the truck back to get new tires I told them to pound sand. After my husband called them up and threatened them, the manager apologized for the “mistake” and said I could come get my $10 back. When I picked up my money, they tried to convince me to buy the tires. I bought them somewhere else. I hate to see people unemployed but I sure hope this location is closed.
