Three independently owned Barbeques Galore stores in Orange County have changed their names to Barbecues & More.
Barbecues & More was previously a franchised business of Barbeques Galore, which filed for bankruptcy protection in August. In September, Barbeques Galore said in a statement that it sold substantially all of its assets to a newly formed entity owned by Grand Hall Enterprise Co., Ltd., the largest BBQ grills manufacturer in Taiwan. The purchase price was $15 million.
Through the sale, Barbecues & More is now separated from Barbeques Galore, said Barbecues & More general manager Maris Strautins. Barbecues & More is based in Santa Ana and has stores in Costa Mesa, Irvine and Laguna Niguel.
Consumer confusion as a result of the bankruptcy prompted the name change.
“The Aug. 15th Chapter 11 filing by Barbeques Galore USA has caused a lot of confusion in the industry and our consumers,” Brett Maister, CEO of Barbecues & More, said in a statement.
“Our customers thought we were closing our doors and were concerned that they would no longer be able to get parts and grills. We want to alleviate any of those concerns and let customers know that we’re here to stay … ”
Barbecues & More independently purchases products from local and international vendors in the barbecue industry. The company currently displays over 3,000 different products in its three Orange County stores. Broadening its product line, Barbecues & More now carries a line of saunas.

Barbeques Galore also owned a Brea store. Grand Hall purchased at least 31 stores in three states, including California. The ownership and status of the Brea store is unknown. Barbeques Galore could not be reached for comment.
