Plummers recently closed its Santa Ana store, said the retailer’s marketing manager Kate Balakeslee.
The privately held chain closed its outlet location at 1540 E. Warner Ave. Consolidation was the reason for the closure, Balakeslee said. The retailer opened a Huntington Beach store at 8881 Warner Ave. about two years ago and will open a store in Rancho Mirage on Dec. 15, she said.
Plummers only has nine stores, all in Southern California, including its location in Irvine at 8660 Research Drive, which will remain open, Balakeslee said.

The brand name Plummers only exists in SoCal, but the parent company operates many more stores under the “Dania” brand and title, or the “ScandiavianDesign” brand and title in other Western states.
Dania stores are very big up in the Pacific Northwest, where the original Scandinavian immigrants still have ancestors living and shopping for modern bedroom sets in Portland and Seattle. There are nine Dania stores in Oregon and Washington, plus one in Reno, and another half dozen Dania stores in Minnesota and the Chicago area. They are all owned by the same company, but I have no idea why they use the Plummers name only in SoCal.
ScandinavianDesign branded stores, 10 of them, are mainly located in Northern California, with a couple others in Denver. This is not to be confused with ScanDesign, another big chain in the Northwest with a dozen+ furniture stores in Seattle and Portland.
I have no idea why the parent company has splintered these nearly identical stores into three separate brand names in different regions of the country. But it’s interesting to note that in the Pacific Northwest and Minneapolis, there is a huge market for modern Scandinavian furniture beyond just the Plummers and IKEA we get here in OC.
….their’s designs looked cheap…
scanadian design tend to be practical. this is why many people also think of ikea as cheap.
ms nguyen do you know that the foot traffic at ikea has dropped by half since the housing bubble collapse?
not many people buying furniture because not many people buying homes lately also, economy is worst as ever who is buying new no one. people rather go to easy life, sams club, costco, online or ikea to buy furniture
