The Ron Jon Surf Shop at The Block at Orange is closing.
Signs at the shop on Tuesday said 50 percent off all surf brand apparel, accessories, hardgoods (excluding surfboards) and footwear; 70 percent off all Ron Jon apparel and accessories; and $200 off all surfboards. All sales are final.
Here’s what the retailer posted on its Web site:
In 1998 Ron Jon opened our store at The Block in Orange, California. The lease for this store has come up for renewal. Unfortunately, we have been unable to negotiate a lease agreement that is economically acceptable to Ron Jon. The California store will close on Monday, December 15th.
Register reporter Eugene Fields got a hold of Ron Jon spokeswoman Heather Lewis, who said the downturn in the economy had nothing to do with the decision to close the O.C. store. To read the rest of this story, CLICK HERE.

Duh a little late there register, I already bought half the store 2 weeks ago when it was 50%.
shouldn’t be too hard to find new tenants for a big blue building that looks like a wave.
Shame on The Block management. Ron Jon is iconic, the only reason they’d push them out is to move this mall towards being a complete Outlet mall. YUCK.
Man! First the announcement of Steve & Barry’s, then Virgin Megastore, now Ron John’s?
I didn’t care much for these stores, but The Block will be looking like a ghost town soon, especially because of these three big store (almost anchor stores) closures.
The optimist in me hopes that they will put more worthwhile stores in their places; stores at the Irvine Spectrum are way better and lead to an overall better experience.
The Block needs better dining options! Fast food, fast casual, and most importantly, sit down dining options!
ghost town is coming to the block.
